GEMulator - Game Master Emulation for Solo Roleplaying Games
Within these pages is a ruleset that allows you to play traditional multiplayer RPGs on your own.
The complete freedom of solo play can be intimidating when it comes to actually playing through an entire campaign. Some sort of structure is needed to guide you along the path and prevent you from getting lost. The GEMulator is exactly that.
Its campaign structure allows you to combine your adventures into an overarching narrative with an evolving cast of characters, locations, and factions.
Let the random tables be your adventure and context your guide. Endless possibilities await!
The Emulator
The GM emulation is split into three distinct phases.
- The Campaign
- The Adventure
- The Campaign Turn
The Campaign
The outermost structure that keeps the overarching narrative together.
The campaign parameters and descriptors help you with the interpretation of oracle results and random events.
You can randomly generate a campaign premise or pick and choose the most relevant entries for the concept you already have in mind.
The Adventure
Adventures are stories that match the overarching goal and theme of the campaign. They vary in length and can be individually tailored to fit the evolving narrative.
You play through every major scene of the story and only focus on the things you find interesting. Solo play is extremely flexible and you should take advantage of that freedom.
The Chronicle
While playing, you'll keep track of relevant Goals, Characters, Factions, and Locations. These lists allow the GEMulator to surprise you with relevant events and scene transitions.
These lists are separated into Active and Background lists so you can have recurring entries relevant to the campaign without having them pop up in adventures where it wouldn't make sense.
The Campaign Turn
Between each adventure, you'll generate a few random events to simulate the world around your player character.
These make fantastic story hooks for future adventures and provide a living backdrop for your campaign.
The Book of Tables
This chapter is filled with random tables to generate entire campaigns and adventures.
You could ignore the entire emulator and simply use these tables for your other games.
